Practical
Applications:
Electric Fireplaces are perfect for any room
in the house; bedrooms, dens, kitchens, great rooms, entertainment
centers, and anywhere else you want to add warmth and comfort.
They are great for apartments, condos, and townhouses, as well
as adding a warm touch to motor homes, boats, and offices. Add
an electric fireplace to your manufactured home, vacation home,
retail store, or church.
Do
It Yourself Installation:
Fireplace
installation for plug-in units is fast and easy with no special
tools required, in most cases. For the wall, corner, or hang on
the wall units, do-it-yourself installation takes only an hour
or two. Simply unpack the boxes and, in most cases, easily assemble
the portable wall or corner mantel. Insert the firebox into the
opening. The next step, is to plug it in and enjoy. There are
also decorative trims available to add a finishing touch to your
new fireplace.

A strange ridge that crosses
Iapetus close to the equator causes Saturn's moon to resemble a
peach pit. Half of the moon is so dark it can almost disappear when
viewed from the Earth. Detailed observations show that the degree
of darkness of the terrain is strangely uniform. The other half
is bright but covered with long, thin, dark streaks.

A satellite of the Milky Way, the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is
a wonder of the southern sky in the constellation Tucana. Found
among SMC's Clusters and nebulae, NGC 346 is a star-forming region
about 200 light-years across. Exploring NGC 346, astronomers have
identified a population of embryonic stars strung along the dark,
intersecting dust lanes visible to the right of the center.

A symphony of observations occurred on March 1, 2000, as Earth-orbiting
RXTE, Sun-orbiting Ulysses, and asteroid-orbiting NEAR detected
a 10-second burst of high frequency gamma radiation. The spot is
coincident in time and location with gamma-ray burst GRB 000301C.
The Hubble Space Telescope obtained accurate distance to the explosion,
placing it most of the way accross the invisible universe.

The awesome spectacle of starbirth produces extreme stellar winds
and intense energetic starlight - bombarding dusty molecular clouds
inside the Lagoon Nebula. At least two long, funnel-shaped clouds,
each roughly a half light-year long, have apparently been formed
by this activity. They extend from the area of the Lagoon known
as the Hourglass.

The Red Spider planetary nebula is a two-lobed symmetrical planetary
nebula housing one of the hottest white dwarfs ever observed, probably
as part of a binary star system.

By chance, a collision of two galaxies has created a visually recognizable
shape on a cosmic scale - The Cartwheel Galaxy. The Cartwheel is
approximately 500 million light-years away in the constellation
Sculptor. The vibrant purple rim around the galaxy is 100,000 light
years in diameter and is composed of newly formed massive and very
bright stars.

Jupiter's rings were discovered in 1979 but their origin has always
been a mystery. Data from the Galileo spacecraft confirmed
that they were created by meteoroid impacts on small nearby moons.

The unusual jet emanating from the center of Galaxy M87 was first
noticed early in the twentieth century. The exact cause is still
debated. M87 is a giant elliptical galaxy residing only 50 million
light-years away in the Virgo cluster of galaxies. Faint dots surrounding
M87's center are large, ancient globular clusters.

The
Whirlpool Galaxy is a classical spiral galaxy. At only 30 million
light-years distant and fully 60,000 light-years across, anyone
with a good pair of glasses can see it toward the constellation
Canes Venatici.

Lofted over the Sun on loopin gmagnetic fields, large solar prominences
are composed of relatively cool, dense plasma. When seen in front
of the brilliant solar disk, they appear as dark filaments, but
these structures are bright when viewed against the blackness of
space.

Two images of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A, taken a year
apart in infrared light, appear to show outward motion, Since
the supernova that created the nebula was seen 325 years ago,
the reason is likely light echoes. Light from the supernova heated
up distant ambient dust that is just beginning to show its glow.
As time goes by, more distant dust lights up, giving the appearance
of outward motion.

Earth was believed to be the center of everything but became
a planet within the solar system, which became placed in a galaxy,
which became placed in the local group of galaxies, which became
placed in an expanse called the universe. As the third millennium
begins, people generally know what Earth looks like from afar,
and how it is that all of humanity is confined to the surface
of this fragile and watery globe.
